Gullible is not in the Dictionary

I am a very trusting person. I prefer trusting, because that, my friends, is a virtue. Gullible just makes me sound, well, dumb. Anyway, this has been the topic of several conversations this weekend. I suppose I've been particularly gullible? I don't know.

Last night, I had just finished reading
Anne of Green Gables and was laying in bed. Michael was trying to get his laptop up and running. I have no idea where it came from, but I wanted to know why the heck a codpiece was called a codpiece. So this is the story Michael tells me:

Do you know anything about cod? Cod are freshwater river fish (probably untrue). In order to catch cod, fishermen have to stand waist-deep in the water to catch them. Anyway, catching cod is a very difficult profession. These fish are like, well, the kamikaze pilots of the rivers. They swim around, but they don't just benignly allow their enemies to attack -- they attack first, even if it's too their death. Well, picture our friend the fisherman: waist-deep in water, full of kamikaze fish. Wouldn't you want to protect your jewels?

Friends, I believed this. I would have gone on believing this if my husband was not gracious enough to immediately
repent of his leading me astray. And reading this? I cannot believe that I, even for a second, believed this. Oh. My. Goodness. Am I gullible or what?
